How to enable JavaScript in your browser

If some of the functionality on this website seems not to be working properly, there is a chance that your browser has JavaScript disabled, or does not support JavaScript capability at all.

To enable this functionality, determine what browser version is in use. From the browser's Help menu choose the last item labeled "About [browser name]...". Macintosh users should go to the application name menu or the Apple menu and select the first item labeled "About [browser name]...", where [browser name] is self-explanatory.

Clicking that menu option, usually the browser will display a dialog box showing the type and version of browser you are using. Based on that information pick one from the following list that applies to your browser and do the suggested changes.

Internet Explorer 3.x

  • From the browser's main menu, select "View | Options..."
  • Change to the "Security" tab
  • Make sure "Run ActiveX scripts" check box is checked
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.

Internet Explorer 4.x

  • Go to "View | Internet Options..." from the main menu
  • Change to the "Security" tab
  • Select "Custom" and click on the "Settings..." button
  • Make sure "Enable" is selected under "Active scripting"
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.

Internet Explorer 5.x or 6.x

  • From the browser's Tools menu select "Internet Options..."
  • Select the Security tab.
  • Pick the "Internet zone" icon.
  • Push the "Custom Level..." button.
  • Scroll down the Settings list to the Scripting item. (You may need to double-click on icons to expand lists.
  • Under the "Active scripting" item, choose the Enable radio button.
  • Push OK and Yes to confirm and close the Security Settings dialog box, then OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.

Internet Explorer 5.x - Macintosh

  • From the browser's Edit menu select "Preferences..."
  • In the left-hand pick list, expand the item group Web Browser (if necessary).
  • Under the item group labeled Web Browser, select Web Control.
  • Check the box labeled Enable JavaScript and push the OK button to close the Internet Explorer Preferences dialog box.
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.
Netscape Navigator 3.x
  • From the main manu, select "Options | Network Preferences..."
  • Select the "Languages" tab
  • Make sure "Enable JavaScript" check box is checked
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.
Netscape Communicator 4.x
  • Go to "Edit | Preferences..." from the main menu
  • Select "Advanced" panel
  • Check the box "Enable JavaScript" if is not already checked.
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.
Netscape 6.x
  • From the browser's Edit menu select "Preferences..."
  • Within the Category pick list, select the word Advanced.
  • Check the box labeled Enable JavaScript for Navigator and push the OK button to close the Preferences dialog box.
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.
Netscape 7.x
  • From the browser's Edit menu select "Preferences..."
  • In the Category pick list, expand the Advanced item by clicking on the triangle twisty.
  • Next, select the subitem labled Scripts & Plugins.
  • In the Scripts & Plugins window, check "Navigator" under the Enable JavaScript for grouping. In the Allow Scripts to pane, make sure items regarding cookies are checked.
  • Push the OK button to close the Preferences dialog box.
  • Refresh the current page or restart the browser.

In some browsers simply reloading the page, might be good for the changes to take effect. In others, however a restart might be required.
