This vase has two different materials on top of the copper. The background was hand-painted in black and on top of the copper the silver. The drawings on top of it are very detailed featuring butterflies on flowers. Before the silver is put on top of the copper surface, the vase is made from one sheet of copper and raised with the artist hammer. Hammering the copper is an ancient technique the coppersmiths learned since prehispanic times, where no sophisticated tools are used, just the furnace to heat the copper and a hammer. The hand-painting is the last one applied. We got this vase from the skilled coppersmiths from Santa Clara del Cobre, Mexico. A unique gift for your loved ones or for yourself. No further copper polishing or maintenance required. Use a dry cotton cloth to clean it.
