This vase has two different materials on top of copper. The hand-painted black layer sits on top of a silver covered copper vase. The drawings on top of it are very detailed featuring big birds embedded on flowers. Before the silver is put on top of the copper surface, the vase is made from one sheet of copper and raised with the artist's hammer. Hammering the copper is an ancient technique the copper-smiths learned since prehispanic times, where no sophisticated tools are used. Just the furnace to heat the copper and a hammer. The hand-painting black layer is the last layer applied. We got this vase from the skilled copper-smiths from Santa Clara del Cobre, Mexico. A unique gift for your loved ones or for yourself. No further copper polishing or maintenance required. Use a dry cotton cloth to clean it.
