This is a solid piece of clay, shaped rectangular, sold raw. However a layer of sealer is recommended before installation. Each piece covers about 32 sq in. Using a 1/2" grout an average of 39 sq in will be covered with one piece, this is a rough estimate. To calculate more accurately how many pieces you will need, just multiply your square footage by 144 and divide by 39; that will give you the answer. If you want to combine the 2"x2" tile with the 8"x4" Saltillo, as shown in the second picture, you will need about the same amount of each tile. This is an average of 3 1/2 of each tile per square foot, using 1/2" grout line.
